We would like to congratulate, Virginia Young, who received the Excellence in Catechetical Award, presented by Bishop Marc Truedeau this weekend at the San Pedro Regional Congress.
The Office of Religious Education in the San Pedro Pastoral Region recognizes volunteer catechists who have served their parishes with marked excellence, dedication and passion for ministry in the areas of Early Childhood, Elementary, Confirmation, Youth Ministry, Adult Faith Formation and RCIA. It is the goal of the Office of Religious Education to give recognition to those catechists who have given their utmost in ministry and honor them with the Excellence in Catechetical Service Award.
Virginia Young has been involved with religious education for the past 38 years. She answered the call to be a catechist in 1980 for the Early Childhood Program. This started her on a journey that still continues today. She became the EC Director and part-time staff member as assistant to Carol Derry, St. Joseph’s first Director of Religious Education. Virginia continued as the assistant under the second DRE, Judy DeRuyter, and when Judy retired Virginia became St. Joseph’s third DRE. After retiring six years ago, she was called back into service twice. She continues to be involved as a volunteer with RE and other parish ministries as well as co-founder of the ESTHER Ministry. Virginia stated, “It has been an honor, privilege, and joy to serve the St. Joseph Parish community.”
Thank you Virginia for all your service.
Peace, Msgr. Kevin
